OLYMPIA, Wash. – Gov. Bob Ferguson has initiated a workgroup to evaluate the effects of data centers on Washington's economy, tax revenue, energy use, and environment, according to a release.
Ferguson signed Executive Order 25-05, directing the Washington State Department of Revenue to lead the workgroup. The group will recommend policies to address energy use and impacts on the economy and job market.
Ferguson emphasized the importance of maintaining Washington's leadership in technology and sustainability.
"We must ensure Washington remains a leader in technology and sustainability — these experts will help us do that," Ferguson said.
The workgroup will include representatives from various state departments, electric utilities, environmental advocacy groups, labor organizations, and industry stakeholders. They are tasked with submitting findings and policy recommendations by December 1, 2025.
