Biking: The park is located along the 10.5-mile-long TART Trail, boasting a paved urban route with an eastern end point at M-72/Bates Road in Acme Township and a western end point at Carter Road in Traverse City. The Leelanau Trail connects to TART Trail and provides an additional 17 miles of paved trail between Traverse City and Suttons Bay.

Fishing: Fishing is a popular activity at the mouth of Mitchell Creek, located across U.S. 31 in the day-use area.

Hiking: Along with biking, the TART Trail provides opportunities for walking and other trail recreation.
Metal Detecting Item is accessible.
Metal Detecting: Metal detecting is recognized as a legitimate recreation activity when it is conducted in ways that do not damage the natural and cultural resources in Michigan State Parks nor violate applicable state statutes. The entire park is open for this activity, however, any items found must be reviewed by park staff and may be retained for further investigation.

Paddlesports: Grand Traverse Bay provides great opportunities for paddling.
Pet-Friendly Area Item is accessible.
Pet-Friendly Area: A pet walk area is located between the campground and U.S. 31 and can be accessed by the pedestrian bridge. Pets must always be on a 6-foot leash and under an owner’s immediate control. All pet waste must be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

Swimming:

A designated swim area is in the park’s day-use area on Grand Traverse Bay.

Please be mindful of Great Lakes beach safety. Pay attention to the beach flag warning system in designated swim areas; red flags indicate the water is unsafe and no one should swim in or enter the water.

Water Access:

Enjoy a quarter-mile of sandy shoreline stretching along the east arm of the Grand Traverse Bay, which is located directly across the road from the park. Please use the overpass pedestrian bridge when crossing U.S. 31. There is an accessible walkway to the water and a beach wheelchair available for use when water levels are appropriate.
