Mature
striped bass spawn in rivers in early spring. Adults leave spawning areas
and migrate north along the coast in spring (green arrows), then further north
to New England and the Gulf of Maine in summer (yellow arrow). They return
south in the fall (red arrow), spending the winter in the warmer, deeper waters
off the coast of NC, VA, and MD, and the NJ-NY Bight region (purple circles). Juvenile
striped bass remain in nursery areas (e.g., Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay,
Hudson River) until they reach a certain size/age and join the coastal
migratory population.
