OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A bill that made it past its first deadline would increase the price of a popular outdoors pass in Washington state.
The Discover Pass is a year-long pass that allows those visiting Washington state parks access to parking at trailheads and certain campsites, like the nearby Larrabee State Park.
SB 5390 looks to increase the Discover Pass price to $45, up from $30.
The bill says the costs to maintain state parks have increased while the cost of the pass has not since 2011.
While it may be bad news about the higher price, the bill would change how many license plate numbers can be written on a single pass.
As of July 1, 2026, the Discover Pass would have an additional space for a third license plate number to be written down. The bill also would create the opportunity for people to buy a family Discover Pass that does not require a license to be written down at $50.
SB 5390 passed the state senate on March 11, and is now scheduled for a public hearing in one of the House’s committees on Thursday.
