Congratulations to the West Springfield High School Class of 2025! We are grateful so many students returned to Irving Middle to celebrate their amazing accomplishments. We wish you all the best on Monday evening at graduation!

A Message from the Principal

Greetings Irving Families,

Congratulations to the West Springfield High School class of 2025! We had over 100 students return to Irving MS this afternoon to walk the hallways and be celebrated by our staff and students. I look forward to celebrating with students and families on Monday evening at graduation. We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of our alumni!

We are just 3 days away from the end of the 2024-2025 school year! We will be celebrating the end of the year with a Spirit Week! See below for the theme of each day. A reminder that on Tuesday we will be having our Team Day, which includes a field day for our students. Please be sure to send in students with sunscreen and a water bottle (LABELED with their name).

On Wednesday, June 11, the last day of school, students will attend each class for about 20 minutes. Due to the shortened day and the limited number of students who purchase lunch on the last day of school, we will not run our typical lunch shifts. Only students who intend to purchase lunch will be permitted to go to the cafeteria during the lunch shift. Also, since students do not need any school supplies on the last day of school, we ask that students do NOT bring backpacks to school on this day - to include string backpacks- unless they have a medical need or an accommodation that requires a backpack.

Lastly, there is an important survey we would like for you to complete regarding our outstanding after school programming. The survey will be available until Friday, June 13. Please click the link HERE to provide feedback regarding our programs.

Take Care!

Cindy Conley

Principal

Please have your child look through our Lost and Found for any items they are missing. Parents/Guardians may look through Lost and Found after school from 2:30-3:30 and from 8:00-2:00 on June 16 and June 17.

🍽️ Summer Meals for Students: Details Coming Soon

FCPS’ Summer Meal Service Program provides breakfast and lunch free of charge to all children aged 18 and younger. Check FCPS’ Food and Nutrition Services webpage and the USDA Meals Summer Meals for Kids Site Finder in mid-June for specific dates, times, and locations.

Please note that no meals will be served on the June 19 and July 4 holidays. If you have any questions regarding the Summer 2025 meal service, please email SummerMeals@fcps.edu or call 703-813-4800.

Intentions for Next Year

If your child will NOT be attending Irving or his/her base high school next year, please complete the Intention Form linked below and return it to hbnguyen@fcps.edu to let us know where your child will be enrolled. If your child is going to Irving or his/her base high school, you don’t need to complete this form. If you find out later you will be moving, please contact Irving so we can update our database.    https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/it110.pdf

Health Room Reminder

All medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school (12:15pm). Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Irving Summer Math- Independent Work

If you have a student who is a rising 8th grader going from Math 7 to Algebra 1, please consider having them work on their algebra readiness skills using the resources available on our website here. The Algebra Readiness Skills document provides a set of pre-algebra skills with learning resources (slides, online textbook and instruction video) and practice problems for each skill. This practice and review will help them start off on the right foot in Algebra 1 next school year.

News from the Library

Notices of overdue library books will now be run on a daily basis until the last day of school.  We’ve made good progress in getting items returned, but we still have 150 items out.  IF your child has lost their library items, have them come to the library to tell a librarian so that we can mark the book(s) lost, clear the student’s record, and order replacement copies for our library.  Students DO NOT have to pay for lost books, but we will accept donations toward the purchase of lost books if you want to contribute.

Now the fun news!!!!  Irving Middle School’s Summer READ! Program for rising 7th and 8th grade students will begin on June 12th and run through August 17th.  There is a choice board with reading options for participating students.  When students read something that fulfills a square on the choice board, they fill out a Google form to report that they’ve completed it.  For every Google form submission, the student’s name is entered into a drawing.  A student may enter a maximum of 24 entries to complete all spaces on the choice board.  At the beginning of next school year, a drawing will be done for Barnes & Noble gift cards.  Four $25 gift cards will be given to the winners.  A student may win only 1 card.  Here’s a promotional video with all of the details.

After School Information

Special thanks to the after school sponsors, front office staff, volunteers and coaches who supported our After School Activities this year! We put forth a variety of activities, clubs and programs and it would not have been possible without your time and efforts.Thank you to the students that supported the program, not only with their attendance - but with their voice and shaping the program towards building relationships and community. Thank you to the parents and PTA for advocating for the program during the budget cycle, I am pleased to share the Middle School After School Program remains for the school year 2025-2026. Have a fun and safe summer, I look forward to next year’s robust program.

Ms. Duncan

After School Program Survey

Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.

Thank you for completing the survey and for your support of the MS after-school program.

This survey has been approved by FCPS.  25315

Survey responses are due by June 13, 2025. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L8JLTKK
