I have had several days serving the Thoreau community and appreciate the hard working and caring students and staff.  While Principal Khuluki is out, I will support the administrators, teachers, and staff to continue our school programs and activities.  If you need to reach me during this time, I am including my contact information below.

SOL Test Dates & Score Reporting

A friendly reminder of the important SOL test dates below. Teachers will be sharing the scores for each test shortly after each test is administered. This allows students to prepare for a retake should they fall in the retake range, and you have provided permission. If your student is absent and must take a make-up test, they will receive their score on a different date.

📝 How can parents/guardians help on testing days?

• 🕘 Ensure your student is present and on time. Avoid scheduling appointments on these dates.
• 😴🥣 Ensure your student gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast in the morning.
• 🎧 If your student has an audio accommodation for testing, be sure they bring headphones to school.
• 📵 Remind your student to have their cell phone off and away in their YONDR pouch.
• 💻 Verify your student’s Chromebook is in working order.
• 🛠️ Computer issues should be reported immediately to Student IT Support.
• 🔋 Fully charge their Chromebook every night.
• 🔌 Pack their charger in their backpack (if your student lost their charger, please purchase a replacement via MySchoolBucks).

📚 Attendance Matters – Important Reminders

Did you know missing just 1 day every 2 weeks = 10% of the school year? 📆 That adds up fast!

We understand kids get sick 🤒 but attending school regularly is key to academic success. Missing too many days—excused or not—means lost learning and impacts the whole class. Let’s work together to keep students in school as much as possible! 💪

🎷 Madison Jazz Band Concert 🎶

Enjoy a night of smooth jazz music in a fun environment when the Madison HS Jazz Band performs at local Vienna venue, Jammin Java, on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 pm. 🍽️🥤 Food and beverages are available for sale during the show.

🚌 THOREAU AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

After-School is an amazing opportunity for our staff & students to connect outside of the normal school day hours! 🌟 Students & staff are coming up with some really creative clubs to kick off this exciting school year. 🎨🧩 After-School clubs & late buses will continue to occur on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 2:25 PM – 4:45 PM throughout the school year! ⏰

• 📅 Weekly After-School Club Schedule – this is the club schedule for the week of May 19th – May 22nd. The schedule is updated weekly since clubs are always being added by students and Thoreau staff. (If a club is highlighted and crossed out, it means that the club will not be meeting that day.)
