A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

I apologize for the duplicate email! Sometimes I hit send before I have fully edited our news and it may have an error or may be missing an important announcement. Thank you for your understanding.

We have had a great week at Chantilly! We can feel the spring CHARGE in the air and are definitely seeing energy rising throughout the building. Our goal continues to be to foster an inclusive, engaging, and safe environment for all students and staff. We value your partnership and ask for your assistance:

School Arrival and Dismissal Safety

Please talk with your student driver and pedestrians about safety and remind them to follow all directions of our Security team and School Resource Officer.

  • Student drivers who park in the library parking should use the crosswalk supervised by the crossing guard at the stoplight to cross Stringfellow Road.
  • Crossing by the library is dangerous and stops traffic. Our SRO will be reminding students about safe crossing.
  • We may revoke parking permits for the library if the unsafe crossing continues.

Keep School Bathrooms Open and Safe

We need your help to address some ongoing issues with our school bathrooms. Recently, some students have caused damage to sinks and toilets, resulting in closures and limited access for everyone. This is impacting our students and our resources.

Here's how you can help:

  • Reinforce appropriate bathroom use: Please talk to your child about using the bathrooms for their intended purpose and avoiding unnecessary lingering.
  • Support the "10-10 rule": This rule helps minimize disruptions during class time. Students should stay in the classroom for the first and last 10 minutes of each period.
  • Emphasize the no-cell-phone policy: Cell phones are not permitted in the bathrooms. If a student is seen using one, it will be confiscated.
  • Encourage reporting: Please ask your child to report any instances of vandalism or inappropriate behavior to a teacher or staff member.

If these issues continue, we may be forced to close additional bathrooms or implement a sign-in/sign-out system, which would take away from valuable learning time. We will continue to provide students with updates on available bathroom locations. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a clean and safe environment for all our students.

Congratulations!

Become Unskippable: Practical Guidance for Talking With Teens About Fentanyl

Teens skip things that don't interest them, including lectures from their parents. But young people die from fentanyl overdoses in Fairfax County each year — so it's important to have short, impactful talks with your teen, whether or not you think they’re at risk.

As a parent or caregiver, you have the power to become “unskippable” and talk with your teen in a way they will listen.

See our tips for talking with your teen(link is external) about fentanyl and other difficult subjects. Watch this video to learn more about becoming unskippable(link is external).

Student Fasting Meal Kits for February 28 - March 28, 2025

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has issued a new, first-time waiver allowing students fasting during the school day from February 28 to March 28, 2025, to request take-home breakfast and lunch meal kits. The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will provide meal kits reflecting the school menu. Meals will be kept cold and must be heated at home. Students may claim one breakfast and one lunch kit per day. If a student purchases breakfast or lunch at school, they cannot pick up a kit that day. Meal kits must be picked up by students at the end of the school day—adults cannot collect them. Parents or guardians must submit a weekly request form via the FCPS FNS website(link is external) by the deadline:

    • March 17, 2025, for the week of March 24, 2025

Forms must be submitted on time to receive meal kits for the following week.

2025 Fairfax County Teen Job Fair

Board of Supervisor Pat Herrity is teaming up with Fairfax County Times Newspapers, Fairfax County Public Schools, as well as local chambers and organizations to bring our community two Fairfax County Teen Job Fairs and Career-Building Workshops. These events focus on students and young job seekers looking for a variety of employment opportunities; full time, after-school, seasonal positions, internship opportunities, and volunteer positions.

Past fairs have provided thousands of teenagers the opportunity to get in front of employers and for our employers to find talented Fairfax County students to fill their positions. Last year, we had over 1,500 students and roughly 100 businesses participate. The fairs are open to all teens in Fairfax County looking for employment, volunteer opportunities, or tips on building their resume.

As a parent or caregiver, you have the power to become “unskippable” and talk with your teen in a way they will listen.

The fairs are open to all teens in Fairfax County looking for employment, volunteer opportunities, or tips on building their resume.

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

As we bid farewell to February and turn our sights towards March, we're feeling the charge throughout Chantilly! Longer days and warmer temperatures are on the horizon, and we’re all charged up for a fantastic spring.

Chantilly has been alive with the sound of music this week. Our Choir groups and Orchestras have been giving stellar pre-assessment concerts, showcasing their hard work and dedication. We're also eagerly anticipating the Band's turn next week – get ready to be blown away!

Spring activities and athletics have officially kicked off, and the excitement is palpable. We’re wishing the very best of luck to our state teams competing in gymnastics, wrestling, and swim and dive this weekend and into next week. Good luck Chargers!

We’re also midway through the third quarter, and progress reports will soon be arriving in your inbox. Please take the time to review them with your child and celebrate their successes and identify opportunities for continued growth. If you haven't already, be sure to register for ParentVue to stay up-to-date on your child's academic progress. Directions to enroll are included below.

Congratulations to Assistant Principal, Zachary Winfrey, who has been recognized as the Chantilly Pyramid Outstanding Leader. Mr. Winfrey serves as the supervising administrator for Fine Arts and English and subschool 2.  His nomination will now move on to the Region level.  We are so proud of Mr. Winfrey and grateful for all he does for our students, staff and the community.

I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon!

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

Chantilly is a strong, supportive, and compassionate community. As you know, we have recently experienced the loss of one of our students. This tragedy has deeply affected our entire school community, and we are all grieving.

In the midst of this difficult time, I have been so moved by the outpouring of love and support that our community has shown for one another. I have seen students comforting students, parents reaching out to parents, and teachers providing extra support to their students and one another. This is the kind of caring and compassionate community that makes Chantilly such a special place to learn and work.

I know that we will continue to support one another as we heal from this loss. If your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher, school counselor, or another trusted adult. We are here to help.

Our Chargers continue to shine in the classroom, athletics, and in the community. A few recent highlights

    • On February 7, our school community hosted a vibrant and joyous Cultural Night that showcased the many cultures that make up Chantilly.  Click here to read about and see highlights!
    • So much talent was on display last evening at Chantilly's Got Talent show sponsored by SGA! We are so proud of our students for sharing their passions with our community.
    • Our Speech team captured the Super Regional title earlier this week and now moves on to the VHSL State Competition. Congratulations!
    • Girls basketball has moved on to the Region tournament and celebrated a milestone for one of our seniors this week. Congratulations to Emerson Mustard, who scored her 1000th point for Chantilly during district play offs.
    • Our Chronic Absenteeism rate is a full 2% below this time last year AND we have demonstrated the greatest progress of all Region 5 high schools. Thank you for your partnership in making attendance a priority for our Chargers.
    • Spring activities and athletics are just around the corner!  Tryouts for all spring sports begin on Monday, February 24.

I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon!

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

Well the groundhog is definitely teasing us with spring and winter!  We are so happy that we have had our Chargers in school with us the majority of the week. It has been an exciting week for Chantilly. A few highlights:

    • Mr. Doug Maloney, Chantilly HS Band Director, has been recognized as the Chantilly Pyramid Outstanding Secondary Teacher for 24-25!   On Tuesday, we were able to surprise him with a visit from our Region 5 Leadership and School Board Member and former Chantilly DSS, Robyn Lady, to honor him as the REGION 5 OUTSTANDING SECONDARY TEACHER!!! We are so grateful for Mr. Maloney's leadership, service, and impact on our students, colleagues, and the community.  He is now a FCPS finalist for Outstanding Secondary Teacher.  Congratulations Mr. Maloney!  (see photos below)

    • FCPS Teacher Tuesday highlighted Chantilly Academy Teacher Mr. Ryan Byrne and his journey as a teacher. Read more at this link!(link is external)
    • Congratulations to Chantilly Gymnastics who were crowned Northern Region Champs and now move on to States next week. Our Chantilly Wrestling team placed 2nd in the Region and now has their eyes set on states. Winter Track and Field and Swim and Dive are competing today and tomorrow in their Region meets.  Good luck Chargers!
    • We celebrated Chargers "ON a Roll" this week. Students were recognized by their teachers for demonstrating growth, resilience, character and being a great Charger in our community. Our awards ceremony for quarter 2 was our largest to date. Congratulations!

Academic Advising Mini-Conferences (rising 10-12th grade only)

Academic Advising is in full swing at Chantilly HS, and we’re excited to offer mini-conferences for families again this year.  These conferences provide the opportunity for students and parents to meet briefly with their school counselor for the purpose of face-to-face discussion around course selections for the 25-26 school year. The intent of these conferences is to both:

    1) provide additional opportunity for school-home partnering around academic advising

    2) improve accuracy of staffing needs before decisions impacting teachers must be made in March. As a reminder, no schedule changes are permitted after March 7, 2025

The mini-conferences will be held on:

    • Tuesday March 4 from 3:30pm-6:30pm
    • Thursday March 6 from 1:30pm-4:30pm

You must reserve a spot through Signup Genius (see link below). One spot per student.

    Directions:

    • Use the sign-up genius link(link is external).  Find your student’s counselor and your preferred time slot.
    • Choose the 10-minute time slot that works for you.
    • In the “My Comment” section that comes up after you choose the desired time, please put your student’s name and then hit “Sign Up Now”.
    • If you have more than one student at Chantilly, you may sign up for a second slot. Please put a different student name in each time slot.

If you sign up for a spot and your plans change, please be sure to delete your appointment so others can use that time slot.  We look forward to collaborating with you and your child as we begin our preparations for the 2025-26 school year.  If you are unable to sign-up for a time slot, please email your student’s counselor to schedule a time to review their course selections via a phone conference. As a reminder, all rising senior parents and students will be invited to meet with their counselor this Spring to discuss post-secondary planning and the college application process.

I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon!

Academic Advising/Course Selection Timeline of Events

From January-March, students will meet individually with their counselor to review course selections and alignment with diploma type, post-secondary plans, or other priorities students may have around course selection.  After March 7, 2025, we will be unable to make any additional class changes as we make staffing and course offering decisions in mid-March based upon student course selections. Below is information for your review.

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

We are always CHARGED up at Chantilly and love celebrating the spirit and accomplishments of our students and staff. A few highlights from this week:

    • Congratulations to Doug Maloney, Band Director and Performing Arts Department Chair, for his recognition as the Chantilly Pyramid, Outstanding Secondary Teacher for 24-25. We are so proud of Doug for this well-deserved award. He is now in the running for Region 5 Outstanding Secondary Teacher!
    • Congratulations to the Chantilly Esports League of Legends Team that won the State Championship.  Tilly Alpha Wolves, Chantilly’s League of Legends team completed the VHSL FALL Esports season as State Champions on December 14th.  The team was recognized at the School Board meeting on Thursday night (pictured below).
    • We got a preview of our Cultural Night performances today during Homeroom for classes. Tonight's event will be a feast for the senses! Come and see the vendors, displays and student performances that make up the dynamic and diverse Chantilly community.
    • Chantilly celebrated our Student Services team and recognized the tremendous positive work of our School Counselors in honor of National School Counseling Week!
    • Our Gymnastics team placed second in the Concorde District Meet, Theater competed in the One-Act Region Competition, and Wrestling District Finals will be held at Westfield this evening beginning at 5 PM for girls and 6 PM for boys.
    • Thanks to the collaboration of Chantilly and Franklin MS PTSA, Amy Slenker-Smith presented a workshop for the community on strategies for decluttering.

Attendance Matters - Attendance Report Cards

Families and students will be receiving updated attendance report cards beginning Monday, February 10. Attendance Report Cards summarize a student's attendance record through the end of quarter 2 and note whether or not a student is considered chronically absent. For more information about Chantilly Attendance policies, please visit our webpage.  Contact your child's subschool if you have questions or concerns about attendance reporting.

    Chargers in Good Standing:

During Homeroom today, as well as through email, students were notified of their updated status at the end of quarter 2.

    A Charger-In-Good-Standing is a Chantilly student who:

    • Earns C's or better in all classes (Grades)
    • Had less than two cell phone violations during Q2
    • No violations of FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (Behavior)
    • Has minimal unexcused absences, minimal unexcused tardies (Attendance)
    • Is not Chronically Absent(link is external)
      • defined as missing 10% or more of the academic year for any reason, including excused absences, unexcused absences, and suspensions. Based on a 180-day school year, this equates to 18 days per year or 2 to 3 days per month. While absenteeism does not directly affect a student’s ability to graduate, it can limit learning, create social anxiety, and serve as a barrier to achievement.

Being a Charger in Good Standing allows students more autonomy during Charger Connect and other incentives during the school day.

    • Outdoor eating during lunches
    • Cafeteria lounge during lunches
    • Library access during lunches, Homeroom, and Charger Connect

    Charger Headlines:

It may be cold and icy outside, but Chantilly Drama is still going strong with our next production!

Come out this weekend to see Merry Men by Kemuel DeMoville; directed by Andy Shaw.

When Maid Marian learns that she has to marry the objectionably evil and incompetent Sheriff of Nottingham, she and her ladies-in-waiting hatch a scheme to hold him at bay: Invent a band of outlaws running amok to keep the Sheriff busy. But what starts as a game of pretend soon blows up into the Sheriff hatching increasingly crazy schemes to catch the bandits, and Marian leading a double life as their leader: Robin Hood. That's right—it's the Robin Hood story as you've never seen it before, with mistaken identities, bumbling henchmen, and wild and wacky sword fights!!

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Community,

It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of Gloria Arias, our long-time Building Supervisor. Her family has graciously given us permission to share this information with the Chantilly community. We know this news will be difficult for many.

Gloria was a dedicated member of our school community for close to 14 years, and was a familiar and valued presence. She took great pride in being part of the Charger team, and her leadership and commitment as Building Supervisor were evident in the care and attention she gave to our building and our school community. We know she will be deeply missed by our staff, students, and families.

The loss of a member of our community is a difficult experience. We encourage everyone to support one another during this challenging time. If you or someone you know is in need of support, please reach out to Chantilly staff and we will connect you with resources. Please keep Gloria's family and friends in your thoughts at this sad time.

    Sincerely,

    Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D.

February 3-7 is National School Counseling Week! School counselors help students thrive and examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; they work in partnership with families as they encounter challenges of raising children in today’s world; focus on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career, and social/emotional development; and work with teachers and other educators to provide an education system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. School counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in school counseling. The combination of their training and experience make them an integral part of the total educational program. As the number of students with mental health concerns increases, our counselors and clinical team are working in close collaboration with teachers and families to help kids return to wellness and academic engagement.

Our commitments to our students, families and faculty are:

    • Chantilly HS Student Services Department encourages every student to find their voice and explore their strengths and interests so that they are equipped to lead fulfilling, healthy, and productive lives
    • The mission of CHS Student Services Department is to prepare students to succeed as learners and as global citizens.  We work collaboratively with parents and teachers to support each student as they find their pathway through high school and beyond

Thank you to our wonderful team of School Counselors (Michelle Ranere, Danielle Savastano, JP Sousa, Megan Sullivan, Sarah Snyder, Bobby Cardozo, Shuntina Taylor, Becky Clonts, Dwayne Peyton, Alexa Scott, Stephanie Yi, Roselyn Abrigo, Sean McCoart, & Hollie Porcella), our College and Career Specialist (Maggie Rodriguez), and our clinical team (Kristina Crawford, Amy Deemer, Susan Daly, Danielle Magagnoli, Diane Ross,& Nick Thayer) for all of the work that they do here at Chantilly High School and within our community!

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

It has been a great week to be a Charger. A few highlights:

    • Congratulations to our Chantilly Charger Speech Team (pictured above) who won their 13th consecutive Region Championship under Coach Barbara Clougherty this week.  Congratulations!!!
    • We continue to celebrate our Class of 2025 athletes this week with Senior Nights for Gymnastics (with a Big Win!) and Boys Basketball tonight at home versus Centreville HS. Come cheer on our Chargers.
    • HUGE thanks to our Science Teachers, students, and volunteer judges for an outstanding Chantilly Science Fair. We had over 200 projects judged by over 50 volunteer judges. Chick-Fil-A, Crumbl Cookies, Supreme Thai Bistro, Charcoal Chicken Restaurant, Woodlands Restaurant, and our own Chantilly PTSA donated food and supplies, which we are very grateful for. We are also so pleased that former and retired Chantilly staff members returned to serve as judges, and that we had such wonderful support from our community to nourish the curiosity of our apprentice scientists! We are excited to cheer on our Regional level qualifiers.
    • Our Chargers have been hard at work wrapping up the second quarter and semester 1 strong! The grading window is currently open and there will be some interruptions to SIS access.  Student Progress Reports will be live in ParentVue and StudentVue on February 4.

    A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

    Dear Chantilly Charger Community,

It has been a great week to be a Charger. A few highlights:

    • Our very own CHARGER, Alberto Sorto (pictured above), was featured on the landing page for Employees on the FCPS webpage this week.  We are so grateful for our dedicated custodians who ensure our facility is spotless and safe!
    • We were CHARGED up to welcome our rising Chargers Class of 2029 and their families to our Curriculum Night on January 14. Coupled with the Chantilly Academy Open House, this was an awesome event showcasing course offerings at CHS. Check here for resources(link is external)
    • We have celebrated some awesome athletes and athletic events over the past week. Our Seniors from Swim and Dive were recognized during their meet against South Lakes on Friday 1/10 and 29 Wrestling Seniors were celebrated earlier this week in their Dual meet against Oakton. Basketball is in full swing and we are looking forward to home games next week and a home meet for our outstanding Gymnastics team and their Senior Night on Wednesday, January 22. Stay up to date with all of our athletic events by visiting the Chantilly Athletics(link is external) page.
    • Chantilly students definitely GOT TALENT! January and February are full of upcoming performances by our Theater with our Children's production and student Cultural Night performances on February 7. Our annual Chantilly's Got Talent show auditions are being held next week! We can't wait to see our amazing Chargers on the stage.
    • Thank you to all of our staff and especially our school counselors for collaborating with our students as they make course selections for next school year. This past Thursday all of our students had the opportunity to visit classes and explore learning opportunities for the 25-26 school year. Seniors met with class administrators to review graduation details. Be sure to check Schoology for advising information and Senior updates!
    • This week we welcomed a new Administrative Assistant in Subschool 1. Jo Hee Yoon comes to us from Oakton HS and will be supporting students, staff and families. Welcome!

Academic Advising/Course Selection Timeline of Events

As we approach winter break, it is time to start planning for Academic Advising and course selection for the 2025-26 school year. To help students and parents make their best decisions about course selections, we are offering additional opportunities for students to receive more information and feedback from teachers about course requirements.  We want to maximize student strengths and interests while helping them to maintain balance and adequate time for social connections, jobs, sports, volunteering, time with family etc.  Each department is providing students with detailed course progression information including the differences between standard, honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses.  Individual teachers will offer mini-student conferences to help students reflect on areas of success and growth.  From January-March, students will meet individually with their counselor to review course selections and alignment with diploma type, post-secondary plans, or other priorities students may have around course selection.  In early March, parents and students will be invited to a mini conference with the student’s counselor to review selected courses and ensure course selection is correct.  Signups for the mini conferences will be available in late January.  After March 7, 2025, we will be unable to make any additional class changes as we make staffing and course offering decisions in mid-March based upon student course selections. Below is information for your review.

    November 12, 2024 - January 10, 2025 - Teacher Presentations & Mini-Conferences

Teachers provide students with information about next year’s course options, expected workload in those courses, and any prerequisite skills. Teachers also meet briefly with each student to answer student questions and provide necessary information to aid students with their decision.

December 10, 2024 - Course Videos, Course Catalog(link is external), and Academic Advising Site   (link is external)available for student and parent review.  Also available on the Chantilly HS Webpage

January 8, 2025 - Curriculum Night for Families

5:00 - 5:45 - Introduction to Chantilly HS (Library) This program will be presented in the library and will be offered in English, Korean, and Spanish. It is geared towards parents/guardians whose home language is not English.

6:00 - 6:45 - Welcome to Chantilly HS ( Auditorium) This program will be presented in English and is geared towards parents of rising 9th graders. It includes staff introductions, course progression and balance, and a student panel. Spanish and Korean translations will be available.

7:00 - 8:00 PM - Curriculum Fair (Library, Lecture Hall, and Cafeteria) Rising 9th-12th graders and their parents are invited to learn more about the course offerings at Chantilly HS and Chantilly Academy by talking with students and teachers.

    January 10 & 16, 2025 - Curriculum Fair for rising 10th-12th graders during Homeroom

March 3, 2025 - 3:30-6:30 PM & March 5 - 1:30-4:30 PM - Parent/Student Mini-Conferences to review course selections. Limited to one per student, these are optional and available by sign-up only.  Sign-ups will open in February.

March 7, 2025 - Course Selection Deadline - Students may not make any schedule changes after 3:30 PM.  Students planning to take a summer class(not recommended) must enroll and notify their counselor by March 7.  Failure to do so may result in a lack of seats in a needed course.

We look forward to working with your student during advising season and to helping support your student’s growth and academic progress.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s counselor or to agparmentier@fcps.edu(link sends email)

A Note from Dr. Goodloe: December to Remember: It's the Most Wonderful Time at Chantilly!

    Dear Chantilly Chargers Community,

The holidays are upon us, and the spirit of the season is definitely charged up here at Chantilly! We're thrilled to be enjoying a December to Remember packed with exciting events, festive cheer, and opportunities to connect and celebrate together. Here are a few highlights from this week:

    • Chantilly Market Days:  Our students and staff enjoyed the opportunities to browse through unique holiday crafts, delicious treats, and festive finds at our student-run market. It was a perfect place to find one-of-a-kind gifts and support our talented young entrepreneurs. Read more on our website.

    • Tiny Tots & Holiday Spectacular Performances Dazzled: Chantilly's performances for our future Chargers in the Tiny Tots shows and the superCHARGED holiday magic of the Holiday Spectacular shows wowed audiences. It is not too late to see our talented performing arts department in action! Come join the Chantilly tradition on Friday Night at 7 PM. Ticket information above.

    • Winter Sports Season in full swing!: The Chargers are hitting the track, mats, and courts and are CHARGING ahead to victory! Come out and cheer on our incredible winter sports teams as they compete with passion and dedication throughout the next week and into Winter Break. Arrival and Dismissal Accountability and Safety Reminders

    • On Wednesday, December 18, we will be implementing a new tardy check-in system using Securly Pass to account for student arrivals. There may be delays for students who arrive after 8:10 AM (tardy bell) arriving in class. Please arrive to school prior to 8:10 AM to avoid being tardy.
    • All students who arrive at school after 8:10 will be directed to Door 1, enter through the new Security vestibule, and will visit a kiosk to receive a pass to class. This is a new process and there will be delays!
    • Late arrivals due to traffic are unexcused. Student drivers and drop-offs are encouraged to arrive in the school parking lot by 7:45 AM to avoid delays.
    • Please report late arrivals or early dismissals to your student's subschool by 9:30 AM to avoid attendance messages and ensure passes are delivered on time.
    • All pedestrians should use the marked crosswalk at the stoplight to safely cross Stringfellow Rd. from West and Library parking lots.

The safety and accounting for all students are priorities. Thank you for your assistance!

    A Season of Giving:

As we celebrate the holidays, let's not forget the true spirit of the season – giving! We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of our amazing Chantilly community. Whether it's volunteering your time, donating to a worthy cause, or simply spreading holiday cheer to those around you, your kindness makes a difference. Be sure to stay up to date on social media for fundraisers and events for our Boosters organizations, PTSA, and many student organizations.

Thank you, thank you to the many families who have already donated to our December to Remember campaign for Chantilly staff. This year we are CHARGING up the holiday spirit at school with lots of festive fun in the weeks that lead up to Winter Break. You can help us get into the spirit by donating to the Amazon wishlist(link is external)

Sick Students leaving school - Reminders

    • The student MUST check out of school through the clinic before leaving school grounds because of illness. (Please do not call your student’s Subschool to dismiss your student for illness). We have seen an uptick in students contacting their family directly, rather than checking out through the clinic. Please remind your student to go to the clinic with a pass when they are feeling ill, as this helps with the safety and security of our school.
    • When a student is sent home or a doctor’s attention is required, the SUBSCHOOL OFFICE will be notified at the end of the day by the clinic. (Attendance will be updated accordingly)

We have so much to celebrate in our Chantilly community and we are grateful for your trust in us to care for your children. I know over the coming two weeks we all are looking forward to winter athletic competitions and performances by our amazing Chargers. We hope to see you at Chantilly very soon!

Congratulations to Elaine Gonzalez, French teacher at Chantilly, who was honored to receive the FCPSCares award this month.

Ms Elaine Gonzalez of Chantilly HS and Ms Jocelyn Smith of Westfield HE collaborated to bring 22 exchange students from France to us. We loved hosting the students, learning from them and showing them our lives. The school worked with a fantastic company to make this happen, the French students had activities planned every weekday and spent a really amazing time touring DC. For my child and family to experience this was phenomenal. The teachers went above and beyond to make this an excellent experience. I would highly recommend FCPS to continue sponsoring and working with the teachers to offer this program

NOVA’s Early Online College is back for the Spring 2025 Semester!

NOVA Early Online College (EOC) allows current high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take up to 2 tuition free college courses.

Fourteen different courses are being offered in the Spring 2025 semester. Courses are asynchronous, online, and for college credit only. These courses run for 12 weeks. EOC courses are selected because they meet the requirements for most of NOVA’s Associate degrees as well as being highly transferable as general education requirements for most colleges and universities. Students must meet eligibility requirements (GPA or available test scores) to take EOC courses.

New Textbook Policy: Some EOC courses require a textbook. Students will be automatically enrolled in NOVA ALL ACCESS ($22.50 per credit hour). Students may make the payment for course materials in their myNOVA account or opt out and purchase the course materials on their own. Review details about NOVA All Access(link is external) so students can make an informed decision.

    Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health

Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:

    • Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
    • Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
    • Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
    • Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
    • A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
    • Alcohol or drug use.
    • Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
    • Thoughts of harming themselves or others.

If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. Click here(link is external) for staff contact information to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Find additional ways to support your child’s wellness(link is external)

If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services(link is external) at 703-573-5679.

No-Cost Virtual Therapy for High School Students

Parents/caregivers no longer need to opt in their child to receive Hazel Health’s teletherapy services. This will make the referral process easier for families. Virtual therapy sessions are available to FCPS high school students at no cost to provide them with a safe space to address concerns such as:

    • Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss
    • Anxiety, worry, fears
    • Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships
    • Academic stress

You may refer your child by calling 571-749-2940 or by contacting our school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of Student Services.
